After the palava at Heathrow where having queued for 7.5 hours and being pushed from one line to another due to the baggage belt breaking we were told to leave the airport along with 4,000 or so other angry passengers as we wouldn't get a flight that day!!!! We returned the next day after rebooking our flight. We boarded our flight where we harped on about getting married and got upgraded to ClubWorld Class where we spent most of the flight horizontal or being fed! We got to JFK, New York and didn't realise how far the airport was away from Manhattan. Checked into our solubrious accomodation, (thanks alot STA Travel!!!)and didn't realise it was labour day weekend so most of New York was off work on the streets! So New York - what do we think? it's big, brash, bright and kind of like London but with different smells - mmmm steaming kebabs??!!! So we've done the whole tourist bit; Statue of Liberty, Rockerfeller Centre, Times Square, Battery Park, and done a whole lot of walking. Went to Ground Zero where they're now building the Freedom Tower in place of the two Trade Centre Towers which were destroyed in the 9/11 attacks. Eerie feeling and seeing the long list of all the names of the people that died was quite humbling and we left there feeling quite sombre. We got sunburnt on labour day - Monday 4th September but today it has been raining all afternoon so if it stays like this tomorrow then we'll be hitting the museums to round our tour of New York off before heading by train down to Philly for a couple of days. No photos added here as yet but will get them loaded on asap - there are loads already so be warned!!! Talk to you all soon. Alan and Tina x
