This journey will take James Farha, Nick Nason (Durham University) and Charlie Lewis (Newcastle University) along the route of the Fisrt Crusade (1095-1099) from Clermont-Ferrand in France to Jerusalem. The exact route will follow the (anonymous) author of the Gesta Francorum - a contemporary chronicler of the Crusade. We will be travelling by bicycles to try and get a little bit closer to the struggles and physical brutality that the men of the time endured. Travelling by bikes also encourages local hospitality, a greater experience of local cultures, insane levels of fitness and am awesome tan. The mix of adventure, historical endeavour, physical challenge and lash will i'm sure make this an unforgettable trip.
