Hi Folks .. On Friday July 7th. 2006 I'm off on a Peruvian Adventure and will be back, all beibg well on July 28th. 2006 I have set a number of Aims and places to go, I'll get there and see what happens. I want to meet the local people as much as visit the Country, hence I shall be staying with 'the locals' wherever possible. Landing at Lima I fly up to Juliac, near Punto on Lake Titicaca. As I want to spend time off the beaten track Im going to the Island of Amantini on the Lake to live with a local family, then on to another island for a couple of nights,..the weavers island of Tequile and then the train (Andean Explorer.. a bit of 1st.Class luxury after a week of local food and no electricity) to Cusco. Here I will meet up with the Trail Guides and Porters and my host family in a village in the mountains, to continue to acclimatise and chew coca leaves for the next 4 days, man. I start the trail on July 21st and arrive at Machu Picchu on the 24th, my birthday (60th.). No organised trips other than the Trail will make it more interesting .. Im convincing myself.. yeh!!!.An extra night in Aguas Calentes to recover in a hot spring spa and a short hike to the Temple of the Moon. Maybe a Geocache or two while Im there. Train back to Cusco ,flight on to Lima and Home (all being well) .....Bring on the roast Guinea Pig and the Pisco Sour.
