Brilliant Bosnia:)

Drove into Bosna I Hercegovina this morning, stopping first at Mostar and then Sarajevo this evening. The Turkish style bridge was blown up by the Croats in 91 in Mostar, but has now been rebuilt and looks stunning. Realised today at lunch how 'unclassy' some French can be as we sat and ate in a Bosnian restaurant. They had taken bags of food from the hotel from breakfast and just ate it all at the restaurant!!! Leandro and I were absolutely shocked. You're in a third world country, the least you can do is eat their food and support their economy!!!

Arriving in Sarajevo (Little Jerusalem) for me was a life experience come true. Political Science is what I studied at Uni, and this region is where all my favourite study had focused on. To think that in '84, Sarajevo hosted the winter olympics and then less than 10 years later they were fighting for their lives! And now 10 years later again, they have re-gathered themselves to open their doors once again to tourists. I have complete admiration for these people! This is the only former Yugoslav republic where Serbs,Croats,Muslims,Buddhists and Jews still co-exist today, where their neighbouring states once tried to crush them! The lush forests in this country are truly spectacular, and I hope tourists will continue to support them. It is interesting that they have had a lot of financial support from places such as Turkey and Malaysia, where much of the rest of the world has forgotten them. You would think multi-cultural countries should be helping each other. Food for thought! They've actually just found four pyramids underground here which they believe may be even older than the Egyptian pyramids also.

Tomorrow we're back in Croatia and tomorrow night will be the semi-final of Eurovision. In Australia it will be on Friday and Sunday nights, so everyone be sure to watch! When you hear them say, "This is Ljubljana calling", think of Leandro and me sitting in Slovenia!hehe
