Well things haven't stopped for us since we arrived in Mark and Chantal's place, it has been a mental, but great three days.
We arrived in HK on Saturday afternoon, (amazing airport by the way). We met Mark and Chantal off the airport bus in a residental part of the city, Tai Po. Their cosy apartment is situated in a little field, with angry bullfrogs croaking every hour of the day. We spent the first night taking it easy in the cinema, we went to see 'Match Point' (which we highly recommend by the way) - then had some deep fried pork and rice in a Chinese restaurant. On the way home, we stopped of at the 'Avenue of the Stars', a riverside boardwalk which opens up to the greatest cityscape I've ever seen - unfortunately we missed the light show, but thats on the agenda for tonight.
Yesterday was an early start, we were on the metro at 9am, (along with some friends of Chantal - Aileen and Ian), and on our way to Ocean Park - a theme park stradling a mountainous peninsula. It has a huge cable-car connecting two parts of the park. We spent the day riding rollercoasters and the like, and had a great laugh in the process. We hobbled back to Aileens that evening after a full day walking around, via Ikea for some delicous Swedish Meatballs. It was like having some good home-cooked dinner again, it was real comfort food - just what we all needed. After some rejuvination, the boys felt like having a few beers, so after a trip to the supermarket, it turned into a bottle of rum, 2 bottles of vodka, and about 10 beers. Lets just say that after a few drinking games, and shooters, it turned into a rather messy night - Kenny isn't all that sure how he got home
(either were the rest of the lads come to think of it!) Just as well the girls were well behaved and able to look after them!
Today, the boys are nursing delicate heads, but we plan to head to Aileens later for a swim - we also might head to that extra-large shopping centre in HK Island, the one with the ice rink on the ground floor! Nothing too demanding however. Hopefully we'll get to see that light show also (all the buildings on HK island have synchronised light sequences and lasers for about 30 minutes every evening, its supposed to be spectacular!)
So far, Hong Kong is a different planet compared to S.E.Asia. It is incredibly crowded, people rushing everywhere, cutting you off, and walking on your toes. It can be quite stressful, as the city seems to never stop - its rush hour ALL the time! I think it will take time to get used to however. On the positive side, the city is just breathtaking, the skyscrapers, neon signs, a cosmopolitan city nestled in a valley between peaks of lush green forests and sandy bays. I'm really looking forward to doing some more exploring.
Enjoy the pictures!
