give me some home cookin'

Text written in: English

I'd like to first give a shout out to breaded pork chops and alfredo noodles. you two have always been a part of me and its great to be whole again. close second shout out goes to Taco Bueno, you can make a mean enchilada but mom's cooking takes the cake. you know what else is great about the USA, you dont have to pay to use the toilet. thank you for letting a natural bodily function not cost anything. and how about the restaurant service? i assure you, that ass-backwards teenager dropping your fries is trying a hell of a lot harder than anyone ive seen for 7 months. you tip them for their service and tahts why no other country else tips---except for europeans who leave their guys the remaining metal change. and despite the inconvenience and the experience of knowing how nice it is to have cars bow to your pedestrian status, i prefer that automobiles have the right of way. it just makes sense, people. in the event of an accidental collision, who is going to win? the local strongman or the 2,000 lb streaking pile of metal? so i say look out for cars, let them pass, and then proceed on with your life. placing your trust in the average driver is not a good bet. And free refills, free chips and salsa at mexican restaurants (and i should also point out that its fantastic to have so much good mexican food around in general---im going somewhere tomorrow), free deli samples (you should see a trend developing), public blaring of music, up-to-date movies, and of course, being able to speak the local language.

But there are some things i would change so allow me to step up on this dusty wooden box and make a few suggestions to our culture. *disclaimer to any government agencies reading this: all suggestions are merely matters of this man's opinion and do no reflect a desire to impede on your tightly guarded sandcastle*  Its not that i watched that much television abroad (but fatty and i did get to watch the entirety of Barber Shop 2, a solid performance all around) but coming home to consecutive nights of national talent competitions and singfests is really decreasing my faith in american tv writers. where are the guys who good programming? leaving it up to the public to be your characters and dummies must be so damn cheap for the networks. they should use the money to ressurrect Chris Farley and John Belushi and put them on for consecutive nights, that i'd watch. i dont know how we kick this reality tv habit but i dont think i can watch another episode of any of it. One thing i witnessed and loved about not here was the use of the horn in south american countries. rarely did i see an altercation or even a raised eyebrow at a honk. it was used rather to alert the other drivers on the road of a passing move, an oncoming obstacle, or if a goat fell out the back of your truck. i wish people wouldnt get so hung up about minor misunderstandings on the road. no one is trying to be an asshole, right? so lets all of us treat it like the good old days, take a valium and just chill out. And one thing i would love to see, is more public spaces. im so proud of chicago for their continued effort to maintain a little green in their city. in the 1850's, they set up a string of parks throughout the city and subburbs. i dont know how long the lake shore park has been there but they also just finished Millineum Park right in downtown and thats where theyre going to have Woodstock. we cant change the fact taht we dont haev many centralized cities but now that we're spread out, the cities should buy abandoned land and make more parks and public spaces. i think it would increase the overall happiness of the citizens and make for a prettier place. plus, dogs would love it and this is really about them anyway. well, thats probably enough advocay for canines tonight; i have many more ideas but am not sure how to put them into action. suggestions welcome.

So i just booked a flight out to Los Angeles on the 18th of July and from that date, ill be out there for three weeks hoping to see as many of my West Coast friends as possible before i jump back to dallas for a week adn then move to Austin. i dont have much to do really so ive been unpacking. unwinding, finding things i havent seen in months (and not finding the one thing i really need (yes its sad but true. i do really need my cellphone. i managed to make it all the way to sophomore year of college without one (i had a pager up until then. yeah i said it, i rocked the pager) but now its a necessity)). that's lost in the pile of stuff but its been fun to see stuff i bought in other parts of the world just safely sitting in my room back in Dallas. so between dragging out the excuse of being jetlagged thereby stealing extra hours of sleep and plotting various and nefarious schemes, i have a lot of free time. anyone interested in catching up, give me a call.
