First and foremost, i must admit, i am a liar. in the last post i promised to be back soon and i delayed about 2 weeks. i apologize and promise to do a better job. and yes, kate, i also agree that right now its kinda lame. but im quickly looking to fix that.
This city is as i remember it. full of great friends and shitty air quality. the second i got off the plane my nose congested up and my throat felt like it had barnicles instantly attached to the most sensitive parts. its been a hectic week trying to run around and see all of my friends in this massive concrete jungle and its been filled with activity each and every single day. today was the best day yet: i was able to watch my USC Trojans clinch a National Championship berth by beating cross-town rivals, UCLA, at the Coliseum (a fantastic college football venue packed to capacity) with all of my alma mater mates. what is perhaps the best part of today was that going into the game, i didnt have a ticket and the Ebay/scalper price was about 5 times face value putting most availible tickets way out of my trip's bargain basement, find the best deal, jewish-father inspired, price range. but thanks to a great girl named Marcela and what some would call a horseshoe up my ass, i was able to use her roommates abandoned student ticket with the one catch that i would have to impersonate a girl in front of the security force which was checking IDs to match the tickets. luckily, im a great cross dresser. the rest of the week has been filled mostly with me sacrificing almost everything to eat well. one thing this city is great for is its quality and variety of cuisines. From dining in LA's historic China town at Empress Pavilion (which has the best Dim Sum on the planet as far as im concerned) to packing 20 people into a tiny Cuban chicken house, my belly has been happy with me thus far. and of course there was In-and-Out seconds after we landed at the airport.
but despite all the commotion of running around town in order to make sure i got to see everyone i wanted to see in my brief stint in this city, i think the most pleasant experience of this leg of the trip was the time i spent by myself in LA Union Station waiting to board a train to visit friends in Claremont. i was waiting for Fatty to get from across town and had about an hour and a half of down time. it was actually really relaxing. i took some pictures of the building, wrote in my journal, read some from my book, and listened to my Ipod. i was absolutely content to sit there by myself and enjoy the down time. im hoping to enjoy similar relaxing activity all along this 8 month trek. i am in no hurry and cant wait for life to slow down. so week one of this excursion is nearly over and by 6 am tuesday morning, ill be in costa rica headed for the beach. its crazy to think that these are the last two days that ill be spending in the United States for the next 8 months. if anything eventful happens, be sure to let me know.
