Bye Bye South America

The day has come. Today we are leaving (mainland) South America and heading to Easter Island. It will be quite strange not to hear Spanish anymore and I am sure there will be a lot of things we will miss, but we are really looking forward to the next part of our trip. We are actullay getting excited aboput the prospect of wearing shorts and sandals and silly things like that.
We have had a great time in South America. The Galapagos Islands, the Inka Trail and the Salar de Uyuni are only 3 of the highlights of our trip. Peru was my favourite country and there are lots of memories we will treasure for along time.
We spent the last few days in Santiago and the feelings I have about this place are mixed. At first it seemed unbelievably cosmopolitan and stragely reminiscent of Berlin. We were driving down roads and looking at houses that could just as well have been in a German city. Even the Germans probably couldn´t match the amount of cake being sold here though..
After having a look around the town centre and enjoying a stroll through the shops, the town became rather bland and almost boring and the smog that covers the city and robs people of a view of the beautiful Andean setting Santiago is in, becomes more apparant.
We will spent the next few days on Easter Isalnd and then fly to Tahiti and stay on Bora Bora and Mo´orea for 2 weeks. Tropical islands in the South Pacific, snorkelling, white beaches, sun.... It´s a hard life !! (Sorry!)
Internet access might be a little too pricey there, so there might not be any entries until we get to Oz.

Der Tag ist gekommen. Heute verlassen wir Suedamerika und fliegen zur Oterinsel. Es wird schon komisch sein, kein Spanisch mehr zu hoeren, und es gibt sicher viele Dinge, die wir vermissen werden, aber wir freuen uns maechtig auf den naechsten Abschnitt unserer Reise. Wir freuen uns auf so komsiche Sachen, wie Sandalen und Shorts tragen zu koennen.
Wir haben Suedamerika wirklich genossen. Die Galapagosinseln, der Inka Trail und Salar de uyuni sind nur 3 der Hoehepunkte unserer Reise. Peru war mein Lieblingsland und es gibt viele Erinnerungen, die wir fuer eine sehr lange Zeit behalten werden.

Wir haben die letzten paar Tage in Santiago verbracht und ich habe, was diese Stadt angeht, gemischte Gefuehle. Zuerst schin sie unwahrscheinlich kosmopolitisch, und erinnerte uns seltsamerweise sehr an Berlin. Manche der Strassen und Haeuser, an denen wir vorbeigekommen sind, haetten auch in einer deutschen Grossstadt gewesen sein koennen. Obwohl selbst die Deutschen wahrscheinlich nicht mit den Massen an Kuchen, die hier verschlungen werden, mithalten koennten...
Nachdem wir etwas durch die Stadt und die Geschaefte gebummelt warenj, bekam der Ort allerdings nichtsagend und fast langweilig und der Smog, der die Stadt einhuellt und den Leuten den Blick auf die herrliche Lage in den Anden raubt, wurde offensichtlicher.
Wir werden ein paar tage auf der Osterinsel verbringen und dann nach tahiti fliegen und 2 Wochen auf Bora Bora und Moórea faulenzen. Tropische Inseln im Suedpazifik, schnorcheln und weisse Straende, Sonne. Man hats nicht leicht!! (Tut mir leid!!)
Internetzugang koennte von dort etwas teuer sein, also gibts vielleicht erst von Australien den naechsten Eintrag.
