Another Side of South America

Text written in: English

a plane took us from campo grande to sao paolo and from there to salvador de bahia. taking the plan saved us two and a half days of travelling per bus.

we stay here in the middle of the old, upper part of the city. our first impression: beautiful old houses that are falling apart, a lot of police. tourists are like caged animals here, as soon as you leave certain areas, a policeman tells you to stop because its too dangerous. this situation causes strange feelings, i never had a situation were i was actually afraid of going somewhere. its the first time here and i wont push my luck to far.

the street vendors are by far the most pushy ones, worse than india, everyone wants to sell everything to you. RELAX or GET CRAZY, thats what i think but its hard to relax, maybe i am tired, i feel a bit like in vietnam last year.

GREEN is the jungle that surrounds salvador, inside of the city all kinds of plants find a way to grow, you see plants and vegetation on old houses, walls, balconys. it seems like the more the old town falls apart (it does although its world cultural heritage), the more nature takes back its former playground.

anyway, its beautiful but we will leave tomorrow in search for the most beautiful beach of brasil!
