the busride from santiago was the most entertaining one, since i have started travelling.i mean that in a positive way, the busrides in peru and bolivia were entertaining as well but more on the negative side. on this trip it was hard to decide where to put your eyes on: either on the tv screen or the window. the latest harry potter movie was not my first choice but its a long movie and therefore the perfect timekiller. on the other hand the landscapes outside were incredible! we passed the andes accompanied by perfect weather.
serpentine after serpentine the bus made its way up to the borderpost between chile and argentina. the only thing we were missing was a lama. no lamas.
after about six hours the first vineyards appeared and we finally knew, that we got the right bus. there was a strange thing about the bus that made us doubt in the first place: we payed the normal price for a semicama seat in the first row of the bus, then the bus looked different then the one described at the ticket counter and we ended up sitting downstairs in the luxury department without paying more! we did not complain.
finding a room in mendoza turned out to be tricky, more tricky then anywhere else i have been to. the hostels were all booked out, only stinky 12bed dorms were available but we are too snobby for that.
after an odyssey through the city for a couple of hours - walking with all our stuff - getting one "no, seƱor, disculpe pero lleno..." after the other, we finally took a taxi and asked at every hotel we passed, the sixth hotel had a room.
after a quick shower we went out to eat and found a nice, nontouristic parillada, i chose "bife de chorizo" and realized that we were back in argentina.
