i had a funny trip to nazca today! the bus at 07.15 a.m. (the one my hostel recomended) does not exist. i realized that hard fact as soon as i was standing at the bus terminal. i also learned there never was a bus at that time. so i walked down the road, not happy indeed because the next bus would have been 10.30 and that would have made me miss the planes for the nazca lines - they only go in the morning and late afternoon.
i asked a local guy for help and he told me about a man with an "old car around the corner" and there it was: a dodge from the seventies! the owner of the car (that form of transport is called "colectivo") said it's 12 soles (4 usd) to nazca and he would leave in ten minutes, but he needs two more passengers for the backseat! hmmm... that makes four people in the backseat? i was not in the mood for that kind of experience but the solution came right away: standing beside me, there was an australian guy, obviously having the same transport problem, we made a quick decision, paid double price and got the whole back row for us! steve turned out to be great company and so we ended up spending the day together.
the flight over the nazca lines was not what i expected - what i expected: huge, fascinating figures you can see from the moon or at least from a spaceship. what i got: figures i could barely see and some perfectly straight lines. sorry, but that was it. it did not give me shivers but i really enjoyed the flight with this small airplane. i even got the co-pilots seat!
in the afternoon we visited "cemetario de chauchilla", that's a 1500 year old cemetery with some scary mummies. nick cave did some cover pictures for his "murder ballads" album here! ingo, check it out! on the way there we met pierluigi from italy/england/colombia, sad that he leaves for another place, a nice guy.
because nazca itself is a terrible town i am off to cuzco tonight!
the earth is shaking as i sit in this internet cafe. the whole table is moving but no one cares, it seems earthquakes are normal here. this is a strange place.
