Piura

Text written in: English

What a nightmare of a trip!! We decided that we were running short on time so we made the decision to head from Banos straight through into Peru via Loja and Maraca. All was going well until we got to the border, the actually change over was fine and we had our passports sorted in about 5 minutes. The problem was our bus company (Loja International) decided that the bus was wasn't going any further and they had organised taxis for us. Now this might not sound like such a big deal however there were about 20 passengers, only 3 taxis and it was 3am in the morning!!

First of they wanted to stick me in the back of one of the taxis with the luggage, Shel wasn't real keen on this where as I was more worried about being left in the middle of nowhere. They then tried to put us in the front of one of the taxis, me in the seat and then Shel in my lap which also didn't happen as we still had at least 2 hours of travelling ahead of us. Then finally we managed to get in the back with just one other person, and then some guy whom they had shoved in the back and was obviously on drugs or drunk or both starts throwing up everywhere which reeked to say the very least. By this stage 2 hours had passed so they threw the chucker out and put in someone else who was happy to sit in the spew after they had wiped it out with a bit of cloth. So of we went, all the windows down to try and get rid of the smell and thinking at least the worst of it was over.....but then our damn Taxi driver starts falling asleep!! So me and Shel spent the next couple of hours screaming at him every time he looked like falling asleep.

To top it of he gets to some dodgy town before Piura (our original intended destination) and decides that he's not going any further. In hindsight this was probably a very good thing however we argued with him for another half an hour before he agreed to pay for a bus into Piura.

All up 26 hours of travel, Id like to tell you about Piura but we spent the whole time resting before paying for a first class bus to Trujillo.
