So long Koh Chang

Text written in: English

Hello, this is Melissa narrating today! So we've been here on the island for the last 11 days and I think that we are about ready to leave. We've seen all that we wanted to see here and there are great sights awaiting us in Cambodia. So tomorrow we are off to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat. It's a 10 hour bus ride from here and Brad may be ready to kill me by the time we get there as you all know how well I travel!!

We have spent a lot of time on the beach enjoying our view since we went snorkeling last week. Our tans are improving and we don't look as pale and pasty as we did when we first arrived! Brad was getting bored early in the week so we decided to rent the moto for the day again and see some of the natural waterfalls with in the park. We only got to see two of them but we got to see some of the eastern side of the island and Brad was just happy to be on the moped! The first waterfall we went to there was a bit of a hike to get to it. The terrain was a little rocky and rooty, and I was a little scared of all the things that could possibly bite and kill me like Cobras. However, we made it through to the waterfall and it was outstanding. It reminded me of some of the wilderness in Canada, a nice babbling brook and lots of trees and no garbage lying around, (there seems to be a garbage problem here). We hopped back on our sweet sweet ride and went down to the crazy Ban Bang Bao Pier that we went snorkeling from. We stopped at our little bakery for some more sugary donuts ... yummy!

Our bike this time wasn't as nice as our last one. It had a little bit of a backfiring issue. It seemed every time we coasted down a hill, which is the majority of the island, the bike would get all wound up and go KERBANG!!!! It sounded like a shotgun. We were okay though once we got used to it and it gave us a little chuckle! After the pier we made our way to the other side of the island to see the next waterfall. I can see why there isn't as much development on the eastern side of the island. The beaches are not nearly as nice or not existent at all, and the scenery just didn't seem as nice. The waterfall wasn't as big as the first one, but there was a deep pool that you could jump into from the top of the waterfall. We were silly however and didn't take our swim suits so we didn't jump.

We left there to see some elephants ... yes I said elephants, and decided to ditch the rest of the waterfalls as we were running out of petrol. The elephants were beautiful. There were 2 big ones, and then a baby with her mom. We have been on a mission since we got here to take a picture of an elephant for Gwenneth the 'Burninator' because we told her we would before we left. So we met Detot, the baby elephant, and we got to feed him cucumbers. Who knew that they ate cucumbers? The mahout (the elephants human counterpart, they live their entire life with the elephant) sat on the mom's trunk while she played the harmonica. It was really neat, and then she placed it back in his pocket. We had a lot of fun yesterday.

Brad is obsessed about getting a little moped when we get back to Canada. That's all I've heard about for the last couple of days!! Wayne, Brad wants you to start looking at prices of 125-150cc mopeds Honda, Yamaha, doesn't matter he says!

Last night the banana pancake man let us take a picture of him. He's very friendly! And our fruit friends where we eat our breakfast also let us take their picture. We will miss them when we're in Cambodia I'm sure! I think that's it for now. We're off to have one last day on the gorgeous beach here.

Later,

Melissa and Brad
