Noah and I arrived in LA late on Monday night, in fact we were almost too late to enjoy our favorite fast food burgers the famous in and out burger. Our ride from the airport sped us out of LAX and straight to the nearest in and out drive thru only to miss the order box on the first go around. AS we were turning around to get to the order box a second time, disaster struck and the lights turned off, In and out was closed for the evening. Luckily our driver flashed her pearly whites and used some feminine charm to convince the store manager to cook us up some fresh ones. Needless to say, we were satisfied.
Noah and I are mostly here to relax, see some good friends, and make sure we didnt forget anything before we plunged into the deep. But as I was riding on a train from Orange County to LA I started to wonder about the philosophy of travel. I realized that this trip to california was part of my desire to make sure that my life was in order before I left the country. But this is defintely not the case, I have so much here in America to keep me loving my life. I suppose that in comparison to everyone else in country I have nothing, (no job, no school, no wife, no kids), but I feel different, there are so many people that I love and who tie me to this place, and sometimes it makes me want to stay. My better judgement and my wiser friends and family tell me that I must go, given this neccesity then my next concern is for the proper mindstate of the traveller. If I dont feel free, then will I be free to experience new cultures... or will the new cultures fly in the face of the things pulling me back? When you become free do you risk losing your most cherished things? or is it that the things that matter most will be the only things left once you are free? Does this freedom really exist, or will my old commitments and desires just be replaced by new ones? Despite my trepidations, I will try to dive headfirst into the unknown.
