Lame

Text written in: English

I've had a great time in Buenos Aires, except for at night. Especialy tonight, I am feeling very angry at Buenos Aires, other travellers, and a couple guys who I thought were friends. So tonight started ok by chatting with a woman from Australia who was a P.E. coach, and it was funny to talk to someone who shares a profession with you except on a different continent, but then I leaned over to talk to someone else, who almost immediately said that he didnt like Israeli backpackers. I asked why, and he responded that he didnt like them because of what they did to the Palestinians. Now as a Jew this made me incredibly angry, because not only is it intolerant to discrimate against an entire country, but his reasons were just flat out bad,  I might be biased, but I doubt it. Jews In Israel have  had a hell of a time making a home for themselves, as have Palestinians had a hell of time dealing with the situation as well, but the situation was created by intolerance in europe primarily, and secondarily by intolerance in the middle east and yet when I wanted to talk about intolerance in Europe the guy told me that it was in the past. So I felt he was being hypocritical as he criticized the jews for being intolerant of the Palestinians right to live, yet he wouldnt admit to other intolerance. Further he blamed the jews in America, which is just flat out rude as he knew I was American, and could have found out that I was  a jew if he had bothered to ask before critizing me almost directly. This outrage would have been misplaced if it wasnt the case that theres widespread discrimanation against israeli backpackers. It makes me sick because I think its in direct contrast with the ideals that backpackers seem to hold dear, having an open mind, being tolerant of differences, and the like, I personally think that this is just evidence of leftover antisemitism in europe and around the world. On to my next beef, we went to a disco here in Buenos Aires, and while Im not looking for romance or anything of the like, I think it would be nice to meet and talk to the women of the country that I am visiting, yet at this place all these women were so stuck up that they refused to talk to me even though I attempted to approach them even in my best spanish. Actually only a very small annoyance, but magnified by the bad taste that Norwegian antisemitism left in my mouth. to complete the evening I met a girl who was a senior at the school I studied at, Emory, she was very nice and she mentioned that she had met up with two guys from emory last week in Buenos aires, two guys who happened to be friends of mine, and had known that I was nearby but not even bothered to send me even one line in an email.Sorry for the bitter 5 am journal posting, but they say that the best thing to do is to get your anger off your chest, so I did Tomorrrow I will speak of how I spent my daytime hours which is interesting and worthwhile, but for now I wil try not to grind my teeth into dust.
