From Cairns we went to Airlie Beach in order to do a 3 day cruise in a yacht around the Whitsunday Islands. It didnt start too well when our departure was put back by 3 hours cos the boat we were meant to go on had broken down out at sea and was having to get back using just the sails. Even though we were getting put on to a different boat the crew were still stuck out on the broken down boat. We didnt seem to be going with the best organised company.
There were 13 of us on the boat. It was a proper sailing boat. When they put the sails up the boat tipped up at a really high angle and it would have been really easy to fall off it. We were meant to go snorkelling somewhere but since we were late leaving we had to just sail to where we were staying for the night. Since we had nothing to do everyone got stuck into the carryouts. You can get a 4 litre box of wine in Australia for under a fiver so we've become wine drinkers.
During the day you went snorkelling at a couple of places. You could see loads of stuff. Much better than the Great Barrier Reef. We also went to Whitehaven beach. It was voted the second best beach in the world last year and we had to agree that it was pretty nice.
It was a really good trip to do. During the day you were either in the water or sunbathing on the deck of the boat and at night you sat up drinking. We got a really dead on group which makes all the difference. It was made up of us two, 4 english girls, and a group of 7 germans who all had trouble understanding anything i said. The only down side was that the sleeping area (which was also the kitchen and dining room) was really cramped. But it was made up for by the class meals they provided. We even got sausages and champ one night.
