Okay this is the last time I will see Delhi...at least on this trip...it is always nice to come back to a place you know and after the exhauting train journey here...I have to admit its nice to know where your going, know how much things cost and get a decent room at a good price.
So I thought it was bad enough that our train ticket was for 12:30 am, but hey we'd get on get to our beds and in the morning we would be in Delhi right? Totally wrong! We did arrive at the train station at 11:30- a full hour before our train left no big whoop just drink some tea, observe the bizarre nature of Indian people in the wee early or late night hours. So we walk to our designated platform #2 12am...about 20 minutes later when our train is supposed to be arriving, we hear..."Your kind attention please...train #(our train) is delayed and will be arriving at 1:35 am...then 30 min later "your kind attention please....your train will be arriving at 1:55 am" ok fine...as if its not bad enough that our trian in an hour and a half late in the middle of the night but this train bitch has to repeat this no less than 10 times each time she reminds us. If you didn't hear it the first thirteen times your deaf or retarded...we get it! I thought I was going to scream and in fact I think me and Andy both shared in a few rounds of "Shut up Bitch!" I was fond of the secondary pleasure of having to scramble to a new platform at about 1:45 am...it was actually quite funny to see everyone scurry to the new platform as though our haste in getting there would some how make the train come...or maybe we all believed that the train might ACTUALLY be arriving. My personal favorite, though, was when she reminded us that the train was late and would be arriving at 1:55, at 2:15, yea that was 20 min ago you stupid cow...still no train! So needless to say the train did arrive at about 2:35...at which time we walked the entire length of the platform to find our train car only to find, once there, an older Indian couple who spoke no English with enough laguage for an army-seriously their bags were bigger than ours and I have to say that is quite an accomplishment and also makes me not feel so bad about the massive size of my bags. The point of this part of the story is that it is already hard enough to get our bags under the seats and when there is no room to do so and it 2:30 in the morning its realy challenging and a test of wills and clamness. Anyway I manganged to get mine under with much forcing, Andy ended up having to sleep with his and it turns out that this couple isn't even upposed to be in the seats cause about 5 min after we are settled this Isreali couple shows up and is making a fuss about the bags and where they are supposed to put the five bags that they have...anyway I will save you the details of all that, but just so you know the train didn't technically start rolling nor were these people settled unitl about 3am which is when I drifted off to sleep...ahhh.
Somehow on top of everything the train managed to lose another hour over night and we arrived in Delhi a full 4 hours after we were originally supposed to. Which for us ent that we would not be able to accomplish some much needed buisness.i.e. train tickets, cd burnings and most importantly shopping! We are staying at the "Yes Please Guest House" for only 220 rupees and prearranged airport pickup which is great cuase our flight is at 6:20 am. the room is big and clean-hot water, TV and room service-I won't have to go anywhere. Except to move to an incredibly small room at 9pm. I guess the room they gave us wasn't the 220 room but a 350 room so when the 220 room came available they made us move...good thing I had aleady taken a hot shower, packed, watched TV and ate food. I just went to sleep on the not-quite-a-double sized bed. We awoke at 4am and were wisked away to better place-eventually-firt to the airport-at 4:30am! Yea! We are going to the sun and to relax-I can't wait!
