Goodbye India

Well I suppose Kolkata is the last stop in India. It is a good place to be for my final days because it embodies everything that is India, it is polluted, noisy, chaotic. You can actually see the smog hovering over the city. I have been hanging out with Emma & Laura for most of it but today everyone is seperated, each to do their own little chores that need to be done before leaving the country. We are the last Gap members left in India and it is hard to believe some of the people are back in Canada. Everyone is in a bit dazed now that it has finally hit us that we are leaving India, after 5 and 1/2 months. Alot of the girls are quite happy to be leaving, I can't blame them, they have been grabbed, harrased, oogled, stared at & discriminated by Indian men for the past 5 months - I have been spared all that, and being the only guy left in Gap am proabably feeling the most torn to leave. I described Kolkata earlier on - messy, chaotic, noisy- and will honest to god miss every bit of it. I really didn't have many truely bad experiances and now that leaving draws near, everyone - even those who have had the hardest time- are spending the remaining days looking fondly apon the country.

We are entertaining ourselves watching the absolutely frazzled tourists who have just entered the country - that was us 5 months ago.   

Of course, I am torn to leave but compelled with an equall - if not greater - force to do just that. Next stop is Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia & I am infinately excited to see South East Asia. All three of us are flying out together on the 15th, we plan to have one big, last Indian supper and then head to the airport. From now on Malaysian noddles & Thai curries.
