Well, we arrived in Canberra around 9:30 in the morning. Not much
else to say really. We get our bags (they made it safely!) and
head out into the taxi rank. We had never been to Canberra
airport before, but thankfully it it pretty small, so we found the
taxis easily enough, and I gave Vanessa a call to get directions.
Ness directed us to her work (in the middle of a move today), and the
taxi dropped us off there. It was really nice to be back in
Australia - the trees, the roads, the cars, everything just rang of
being home!
We meet Ness and she helps us get our bags into her car and over to her
home. She gives us a spare key and offers to drop us off in the
centre of town on her way back to work. We are exhausted (about
23 hours of travelling since we left Portland), but we don't want to
lose an entire day just sitting around, so we agree and Ness drops us
off.
We aren't sure where to go, but we see signs for Floriad - it is still
on in Canberra, so we follow the signs to the annual flower show.
Very nice displays, and we take quite a few pictures here - aiming for
some interesting floral shots. We walk along the edge of the
lake. Neither of us feel like going to any of the museums, but we
wander around Civic for quite awhile looking at shops and such.
We eventually meet up with Ness for the evening, and we go back to her
place and order Turkish takeaway for dinner, which is different.
Lavinia and I are exhausted from the 23 hours of travelling, and
walking around in the hot Canberra sun all day - we are falling asleep
during dinner! We meet Carl (Ness' boyfriend), before falling
asleep for the evening.
