On the first full day of activity we went to see Argentina v Peu in a worldcup qualification match. argentina were already through and peru couldnt make it so the game was boring. argentina won 2-0, with a late penalty and very late second goal. that was about it. that evening we stayed in the hostel to meet some people and sort out what we were doing for the week.
next day we went on a 4hour bike ride in the city. it was really good and established our bearings. that eve we went to a parilla, a local famous one in san telmo area called Desnivel. quality. for about 46 peso we had three gigantic fillet steaks, called lomu, and scoffed them back with some beer. total cost in euro, 15euro.
the next days we took it slightly easy, walking around and getting to know the city. we were also meeting some people in the hostel and trying to fit in.we went to see the uruaguay v argetina game in a bar. the argies lost 1-0 so uruguay have a chance to qualify now.
Today, friday, we have been to Recolata, the famous cemetary where Evita is buried along with most of the past argentinian gentry. pretty scary and weird place. massive tombs, one doctor is buried in an egyptian pyramid so i guess its whatever you lke. paupers have a different cemetary though. bit strage with people posign for photos outside graves of dead people. not to mention the israelis that started to sing 'dont cry for me argetina' while posing for photograps.
Fiday night we went to palermo, the trendy up and coming area in buenos aires. we got recommended a restaraunt to go to called green bamboo. it was pretty awesome food for the price. but its expensive compared to normal argentinean restaraunts. combined with the fact that at that time we noticed we got a false 100peso note in our midst. event the atms have false ones here (since its the largest not so we could not have got it in change). there is false money everywhere. andy managed to get a note in a nightclub that looked like it was drawn by a three year old with a crayon. anyway...we went out to palermo to a few bars. it doesnt kick off there until 2am, so we didnt really stay out longer than 3 as we had stuff to do on saturday.
saturday we went to recoleta to the market place, then to avenida cordoba which has lots of shops. things are cheap here and of good quality. saturday night and it was booze time in the hosteluntil we got a cab for opera bay again. i dont remember much of it!
sunday - el superclassico between river plate and boca juniors. great atmosphere but it was 0-0, so without goals it was disappointing.saw some old school fihgting on the terraces. we had great seats right in the middle that the guy in the hostel got for us. after the game we went for lunch in one of the all you can eat restaraunts. it was mothers day here so all of them were busy but i stayed and ate my due. two sirloins with mash...superb! sunday night is beer time again and hazy monday entry! it doesnt stop in millhouse.met one guy today whose girlfriend made him leave as she claimed he was drinking himself to death with obrien, the irish machine. he took down two mexicans at tequila last night
monday we went to the botanical gardens and some shopping again. quite day but we have a birthday party tongiht to go to so maybe it will be a late one in palermo.
