the best way to see lima...

Text written in: English

is with a LOCAL. to all tourists who hate this city, this is how to love it. I've eaten infamous lomo chancho in china town (out of this world!), walked through neighborhoods I wouldn't otherwise have been in, seen incredible grafitti, met great musicians, saw the decapitated head of Pissaro, toured cathedrals (catholicism is the exacpt opposite of buddhism, I'm observing...), rode local busses (where you dont wear sunglasses because someone will steal them off your face through the window), bought a hello kitty cell phone that talks in spanish. and this was just the first day.

next day my friend Juan took me to meet his family including grandma, mom, aunt, son, brother, neice, nephew, dog. how great to eat a home-cooked meal, play with toys, see press clippings from Juan's band, talk english with him and his mom (they each didn't know how well the other could speak). I was forever grateful to be surrounded by such smart, generous, welcoming people!

I'm also staying with Matt & Anna from USA - wonderful to see them again and slip into their everyday groove of working, planning holidays and buying washing machines. not to mention they have fed me so well!!

Next I'm off to Hauraz, maybe the coast for a week or so, then back to Lima. so far my overall plans have already changed (going back to lima?!) but I like it.
