the heat doesnt let up. at least today were back in the boat and the breeze it creates. we have 4 hours to before we get to the trail to lago sandoval. heat malaise sets in - we all nap (except alex...or maybe he did). I really cant move anymore.
to get to lago sandoval is a 4km hike. its 14:00 - smack in the middle of the hottest time of day. the first 2km, the jungle is burned all around us. victor described huge fires from 2 weeks ago. turns out a farmers plan got out of hand and acres of 1st generation jungle got burned up too. this is protected jungle, but there was nothing anyone can do. its ridiculously sad. and hot.
40 minutes later we get to the lodge. dd cracks from the heat :( we head to 2 tiny springs to attempt the cool-off process. its moderately effective. the rest of our time here is pretty hazy - we are seriously both pretty delerious from the past 2 days. I remember one cold cervesa, evening boat rides to see the resident otters, candlelight dinner with more bugs (probably even in my soup but I refused to confirm), caymen catching. but despite this haze, the most beautiful thing: at dusk thousands of cicadas started their call - it was a jungle "ohm" - one would start before another stopped. and not just one tone but in harmony! you couldnt help but join in. I could be surrounded by that sound forever. victor says all these signs (bugs, heat, cicadas) mean rain is coming - lets hope hes right.
