things took a turn for the better after a fair amount of panic. we have a transfer in cusco before flying to peurto maldonado and as we check into the next flight, they tell us (in spanish, of course), that our flight isnt confirmed. in peru this usually means youre SOL, well loose our $$ and we wont get to peurto maldonado.
well, to summarize a really long day, 2 amazing women with iPeru (no, not an apple product, theyre with the information center) & our lima travel agent transfered tickets to an agency in cusco - they just needed to taxi the physical tickets to airport within 10 minutes so ew could board. cake, right? well, it came down to the wire and this peruvian man appeard out of no where to negotiate boarding passes even though the actual tickets hadnt arrived yet. we still dont know who he was or with, only that we got on the plane and that the tip he demanded was SO worth it!
so 3 hours late we get to PM and find victor! its clear he and dd are old friends. he set us up in a hotel, took my backpack to the laundry and basically babysat 2 gringas for the next 5 days. we hit the market to buy a few supplies. peruvian markets are just like asian and are the best place to be if you have ADD. if youre not, theyre a circus.
I didnt sleep at all the night before (2 all-nighters in 1 week - oy!) so we crashed at 18:00. our crazy room had 3 single beds, satin sheets (in thejungle), and one wall painted with red "snakes". sometimes, you dont ask, you just live.
tomorrow we head down the madre de dios into another jungle. this time, no easy life for us, were camping in tents.
(ps - theres no internet in the jungle, Im writing all of this from cusco, a week later)
