after a little confusion with phones and addresses, we finally got out of the lima airport and on our way to matt and annas place in Miraflores. our welcome to lima was the cabby telling us through hand signals to "put your bags on the floor or people will try to smash in the window and grab them"...does the peru tourist board know this is how folks are being introduced to their beautiful country?
anywhoo, streets were surprisingly clean. got our first tast of lima smog. got an even bigger taste as we realized our cabbie didn{t actually know where he was going and we drove around for an extra hour. and being a man (lo siento), he wouldnt stop to ask for directions - clearly this is a universal trait.
we got to a street that he insisted was it, but there was no corresponding building number. finally got him to find a phone, we called matt, got better directions and he STILL couldn{t find it! well, it finally worked out, got to matt and annas, inhaled great home'made risotto and felt so welcome. tomorrow we head to iquitos and the jungle full of creep crawlies.
traveler tip: don{t wear flip flops in lima - the combination of contstant mist and dust make the sidewalks skating rinks. also, make sure you cabby knows where he{s going.
