sweatin it in BA

Text written in: English

made it back to BA after the drug bust, checked back into chill house, found alesandro still there, in a shopping/clubbing coma, big smile on his face, ready to greet old friends (us!).

today I pick up my brazilian visa (after 4 failed attempts - clearly I am no longer organized OR resonsible). they require proof of lodging for your first days so I've booked myself into a beach-side hostel south of florianopolis for carnival. very tranquil.

until then, clubbing continues. we're like kids in a candy store deciding where to go. and life at chill house makes it even sweeter. wake up around noon, maybe wander around the city (what touristic things have I seen?), siesta, wake up to eat steak, open the wine (USD$2) , get ready, head out around 3, back around 9, lather, rinse, repeat.

I'll update this with websites in a bit, but here are the clubs we've hit including from last week. there's talk about BA/chill house for new years 2008....pencil it in ;)

Nicieto/Club 69: not bad, but touristic. I even bumped into a guy from minnesota. music had it's moments, but there were scary forrays into rock with a back beat. but like most places here, late night (aka: early morning) brought out the best beats.  http://www.nicetoclub.com/

Opera Bay: huge new club in the pricey part of town. we had free passes thanks to chill house. the club is designed after the sydney opera house (reminded me of DIA) with a canopy cieling, glass walls, infinity pools and blue light - quite beautiful. (tho by the morning, there were beer bottles floating the the pools. neanderthals that we are). we found the darkest, hardest room. the sound system was massive, the peeps were beautiful, the night disappeared. we cabbed back in the dawn & rain. who knew I should have appreciated that rain. it's the last I seen in a while (2 weeks ago) and BA is immersed in a heat wave now.

the Big One: OK, best night of music ever for me. I already wrote about this one, but the club is excellent. 4 floors looking down on an atrium, amazing sound for such a big place. beats so hard and so relentless - NO down time. this is why I live, for music like this. pure bliss. the morning after, even a bus engine sounded like it had a beat behind it. the world became our club. the rest of BA has to stack up to this. a tall order. http://www.palaciobuenosaires.com

Glam: this night we joined forces with alesandro to taste gay-ba. he's been so immersed in it that he bumps into familiar faces in this city of millions. we convince a few other straight guys to come along (their first trip to a gay club. hee hee). we shake our booties on what little floor space we can find. awesome atmosphere!!!

Basement @ the shamrock: small club - nice change from the mega-places we've been - below an irish pub (go figure!). minamalist progressive house, inventive dj. once again, hours evaporated. once again, I'm so happy I decided to come back to BA....

so the heat wave continues. we forgot to extend our reservation at chill house and got booted. stumbled across ostinatto hostel (www.ostinatto.com.ar), an ode to modernism and within the budget. just checked in and already I would recommend it.

in general, I say get your butts to BA. the exchange rate on the euro is so bad, BA is a slice of europe but so cheap, great steak, shopping galore and no jet lag. screw the euros, come here!
