actually less than...sandwiched between two 20 hour bus rides. but they have these buses called coche cama that are basically 20-some lazyboys on wheels complete with movies (some even in english) and whiskey on the rocks. no wonder 20 hours doesn't seem so bad.
with nothing more than a random email and a supposed place to meet, carolina (met at chill house, from portland!) and I travel +1200km and bump into petros and chad (met at chill house, from south africa) in the hostel. these are the cats I was partying with in BA. chads birthday is tomorrow...we're so in trouble again.
first day we just chill at the pool - it's massive - definitely being styled for backpackers. (just don't look too close at the water. we are pretty grubby afterall. blech.) also had aircon & tv (with remote!) in the room. I'm so easily pleased these days.
next day we head to iguazu falls - everyone says you gotta go and I'll agree. but we had an ace up our sleeves - friends of friends knew of a secret stash. go up this trail, cross the barier that says "do not cross" (of course), hike over rocks & streams, through the arch, and behind all this - hidden plunge pools surrounded by 100ft tall waterfalls. the spray makes a constant fog. we jump off rocks into bottomless water. the sound is relentless. and the best part - we had iguazu all to ourselves.
all you can see are the tourist helicopters that in a few paranoid moments we swore had discovered us. but everyone agreed that if we got caught and kicked out it was totally worth it. but after 2 hours of silliness we hiked out with no incident. so if you're on the road reading this, take the middle path on the island and when you get to the end, head through the hole in the rock. enjoy.
that night we celbrated chad's birthday and met back up with a few aussies and brits from chill house. we got silly-stupid and finally resorted to the most humiliating of drinking games. slap a card to your forehead (so humid, no problem sticking) and whoever has low card drinks. yeah, you can imaging where this went. around midnight we jumped in the pool that is conveniently not deep for more silliness until they kicked us out at 2.
not at all a bad time in iguazu - it was worth the 20 hours! now back to BA where the music is oh so much better.
