the best things are unexpected

Text written in: English

Im on my way to chile to drown in the futalafue! (someday I'll learn how to spell this river...) I thought I'd get there today but I pulled another rookie move. I get to esquel via another incredible highway of views - with every kilometer I head south, the mountains, lakes and trees get bigger.

I thought I'd get a simple bus transfer to the next city, then hop across the border. I find the bus, get to the next city, but ummmm... there's no bus station here, this city is smaller than the last one and everyone is on siesta (ie: everything is closed). If I get off this bus I think I'll be stranded. it dawns on me that the big bus station I just left was probably where I was supposed to get my ticket. guess I should have asked a few more questions there. you know what they say about assuming....read lonely planet and it makes an ass out of ME (actually, I did this all on my own, but I prefer to blame LP).

so I stay on the bus, make a lovely loop around the city (locals get off, then new locals get on) then head back to esquel. here I learn that yes, my bus to the border leaves 8am tomorrow. from esquel. but with this news I realize I would have just been slumming around the city anyhow so in the end I got a sweet tour of the area for $1. a reminder to never stress....

SO, that lands me in esquel, at the most amazing hostel of the trip so far. STAY HERE, visit this city, have dario guide you around and laura make you feel SO at home. (hostel: www.piukemapu.com  guiding: www.cholilaexplorers.com) I am coming back in winter some day to teach dario to telemark and learn about this pocket of champaign powder in south america (heather, bill, kristin, scott, you HAVE toget here!). and the best thing, dario LOVES marmot gear! I've been showing him the texture websites (www.climbmeru.com, www.climbsepu.com, www.overkhumbu.com). he's been a fan for years.

I may have to stop here again on my way back to argentina....
