montañas

Text written in: English

have a one night stop-over in uspallata, argentina. today I head to los penitentes - a ski resort near aconcagua. the trails are supposed to be sweet so if I get a good vibe, I may stay here for a while (I need to run!!!).

mendoza was great (the wine was fabulous) but so civilized. funny the things that seem to reflect civilization, but for the first time since maybe lima (and really not even there), I saw punk rockers, people exercising, overweight people, girls in tank tops, sunglasses (tho still not a lot), swimming pools, sprinkler systems & grass, modern art, clothing stores, no chickens. but still dogs - everywhere dogs. and with tails and balls and full-sized ears (did I write about that already?). this is so different that in united states where everything gets snipped.

for now I'm back in the country - uspallata is another small town with not even much of a tourist trade. the peaks overlooking the city have snow patches (snow!), every now and then someone rides by on a horse. the river we drove by in the valley flows like chocolate milk - it was amazing! I heard a guide was killed a few days ago and the rafting trips aren't running the whole river. I'm happy to keep my feet on the ground. sure hope I find good trails. and a nap - I was up all night again and need to recover. oy.

I hope everyone's holiday plans are going swell!
