The hostel we're staying at in Floripa has a car for hire. Well, it's got four wheels and an engine (just) Thats where the car description ends. It was a heap of junk. People say Beatles have character, but I didn't expect the character to be something like Fredd Kruger.
It stalled everytime the revs weren't high enough, moving or not. It stalled over speed bumps, in traffic (even in neutral) In total I must have stalled it 100 or so times. Suffice to say I was a bit annoyed by the end of the day, despite having a great drive exploring the whole island. Oh, and note to self. NEVER hire a car, no matter how cheaply, if in Brazil on a weekend during carnival. And never agree to let Canadian girls drive. Especially ones from Winnipeg (the flattest city outside of Holland) up hills.
Tamara decided to stall the thing, and abandon it on the steepest slope on the island, having never done a hill start in a "standard"(think that means manual) I swapped to the driver's seat, waving around 10 cars past us until finally an opening. Then floored the thing, pulled a bit of a wheel spin and somehow got up the damned hill. Needless to say the locals were laughing by this point. Note to ANYONE coming to Albergue do Pirata hostel in Floripa... DON'T hire the car, if you want your dignity intact.
The past two nights I've been a bit of a killjoy. Not been out at all! Tonight that'll change. It's only 16:15 and we're already drinking. Though no swimming tonight I promise!!!
Tomorrow we leave, hungover or not, for Sau Paulo - on the night bus. Then off to Rio the day after. For more partying and beaches. This is the life!!!
