Back to work : (

Text written in: English

My first day on the farm was spent near Lake Tekapo. It was very different to the working on the farms  in Oz as here they are much more particular about how the wool is catogorised. However the same banter went on in the sheds,  with the music blaring and everyone having a laugh.

The wool industry is huge over here and it is said that the merino wool in New Zealand is the finest wool in the world. They export it to Europe and the States where they make designer suits worth lots of $$$ . I was working alot with maoris who love to sing and dance while working ...have such a good sense of rhythm...always having a laugh with each other.

Unlike the aboriginals people of Australia, Maori's are not segragated from the white people of New Zealand and are well respected especially their culture which is very evident here. This relates back to when the european settlers arrived back in the 1800's . They held rights to the land and the brittish had to write up a treaty on the ownership. Hence the Maoiris are the only indeginous culture in the world to sign a treaty - Treaty of Waitangi
