Time pressing and the fact that we really didn't fancy a mammoth a bus trip, we decided that we would fly up to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, the northern province of Malaysian Borneo. I really don't know if we missed the major sights of KK but there really didn't seem to be that much to do. We wandered around, saw a few things and decided we would leave the following day and take a trip over to Brunei.
We followed the lady in the Tourist Information Centre's advice and planned to catch the 08:00 ferry. We arrived in plenty of time but apparently the boat, including first class was full. The next boat wasn't until 15:00 and the fact that we needed to come back the following day, there really wasn't much point going over in the end. I was a little disappointed as it was one of the places I wanted to visit while we were in Borneo but it looks like I shall just have to come back and do it another time! This meant that we had to kill a whole day in KK. I don't know how we did it but thank God for internet, the cinema and slow service at a restaurant. I think the most exciting thing we did was book our bus tickets to Sandakan for the following day!
