Working

Text written in: English

So, Now I have two jobs.  The Stars and Stripes Diner job is not bad, only worked there 2 days now.  Today I went over to the mount with the intention of surfing, but I ended up maybe finding a place to live, and looked at a couple cars too.  Yesterday, I went to the Century 21 office to see what kind of rentals they had.  They have one that's office of Ocean Beach Rod, which is the road that parallels the beach.  There are 3 Americans living in it right now, and they just put in their 3 weeks notice that they're leaving.  So this morning I went and checked it out.  It's quite a walk from downtown Mount, but only a 10 min. bikeride.  But today I walked becasue I didn't have the bike with me, took forever!  Anyway, the place is awesome!  Full kitchen, dischwasher, washer (no dryer), 3 bedrooms, each with double beds in them.  It's the upstairs of a house ( a guy lives there during the holiday months). And the best thing (well 2 awesome things), one, looking out the back porch is the Mt. Maunganui Golf Club! Hole 10's tee box is literally in the backyard - could almost spit onto the teebox!  And the other good thing, the beach is just across the road!  The only thing is that they could be staying in the place for another 3 weeks, which is quite a while to be in a hostel.  However, they legally have to give 3 weeks notice, but now since they know we want the place, they might move out early, which means we could have it sooner than 3 weeks, which would be awesome! Manuel, myself, and another Andrew that I just met today are going to live there.  Andrew's from the states as well, 24 yrs. old.  I actually met him in a cafe while looking for jobs, he just got here a few weeks ago too.  We're pretty much all in the same situation: need a place to stay, have no trasnportation.

I looked at a car yesterday, was an '87 Nissan BlueBird wagon, 247,000 kms'.  ONly $800. Only bad thing was it popped out of 5th gear.  I went back again to look at it today, but it was already sold|! I'm thinking I might buy a bike for now, until I get the apt. thing figured out.  But then I went to a couple other car places on my way back from the Mount, ran into a little dealership, test drove a Subaru Justy, very little car, 1.0L, 1000cc.  It's $900.  The catch with that was one is the mileage.  The odometer doesn't go to the hundred thousands, so it's hard to say wheteher it has 150K or 250K kms.  Looked at the history of the car, and there's one little glitch, where someone could've driven the car 80,000 km in one year (which is fairly unlikely), or someone couldn't entered the numbers in the computer wrong when they were updating the WOF (warrant of fitness, which has to be renewed every 6 months, for the car to be legal to drive.)

Tomorrow I singed up for a surf lesson, the surf right now is awesome, and the swells are fairly big.  Yesterday when I was over at the Mount, there were like 50 or 60 surfers all in this one area.  It was awesome to watch them!  That will be me in a few days ;)  There were also kiteboarders!  That was really cool to watch.

So I've got to juggle all my upcoming expenses: probably 3 weeks bond on the apt., plus 2 weeks rent prepaid, possibly a car, possibly a bike, possibly a surfboard and wetsuit, skimboard, who knows waht else - a membership to the Mount Golf Club (American guy at apt. said it's $330 for the summer for unlimited, not bad considering I could just walk onto the course0.  But, I'll definitely take care of the living thing first.  I will move over to the backpackers lodge at Mount either tomorrow or Friday because it will be more practical for getting to work, since I'll work there 30-35 hours next week, and only Thursday, Friday, Sat. here in Tauranga.

Alright that's it for now, please email (aschrum@gmail.com) me and let me know how things are going back home, haven't heard from too many people; I still want to know what's going on with you too!
