Manu rain forest... awesome

Text written in: English

What can I say about this?

Just spent 7 days in the Manu Rain Forest and all I can say is that it was superb. If you ever want to do this trip then the pace to go for this is www.amazontrailsperu.com - ask for Abraham to be your guide, I think he owns the company but this man truly has eyes in the back of his head and it is just unbelievable what he can spot in the jungle.

We got picked up nice and early (only 5 of us, great) and took the long bus journey towards manu. This time the bus was cool and comfortable and the people we met were really nice. The journey was about 8 hours but this was ok, as there were not constant stops along the way to buy things off the locals (unlike Colca!). First night spent in a lodge by the river, already those lovely mosuitos were around. In fact, whilst having dinner at this place (In Pilcapata) I have bçnever seen so many fying insects around the lights!

So up again the next morning at 6 (all mornings were like this so no ly-ins unfortunately!) we were off to the river for our 8ish hour journey up the Madre De Dias river towards manu. The canoe was really cool and as there wer not too many people on the trip I suddenly noticed that there were as many helpers as there were tourists...... nice. One of the guys there was called Frank, and he was being trained as a guide but you will need to watch out for this chap in a year or so. He slept alot, and said the river part of the tour was boring!!! He will make a great guide I think.

Although most of the day was spent on a boat, Abraham kept us busy with all the wildlife we could see along the river and cook kept us very well fed. finally we arrived at our next stop for the night pretty far into the forest - a place called Blanuillo. The lodge was lovely, but as soo as we arrived all the Pervian guys jumped off the boat and headed off for a game of football - I went long to watch but fottie in walking boots is not to be recommended! We headed out afterdinner for our first night walk into the jungle. My god, i saw taramchillas close up, they scare the living daylights out of me especially when the guide is proding above the nest to get the bloody huge thing to appear. I kept me distance and started paying very close attention to where I was putting both my hands and my feet!!!

First nights sleep in the rainforest - I think it is great (as long as you have a mosquito net) to just lie there listening to the sounds of the animals, it is really loud but also incredibly mesmerizing - another 5 nights of this was going to be fun was all I was thinking.........
