Sunny Sydney

Well we've made it to Sydney! We arrived by train this morning at around 7:00am after leaving at 8:00pm last night and riding all night. Luckily we were both tired and so we slept most of the way and the 11 hour train ride wasn't that bad. Plus I've never ridden on a train so that was fun! As you can tell by the title, it is a little warmer here than in Melbourne, which we are both really happy about, and it's sunny here whereas it was overcast most of the time in Melbourne. The high today is expected to be in the upper 60s which is great since it was in the 40s and 50s in Melbourne. Yall know i dont like the cold! haha.

Let's see, to catch yall up since our last entry, we left off where we were about to go to an Aussie Rules Footy game. Well we had asked about tickets earlier and were told we could go an hour before and get tickets there with no problem, but when we got there they were sold out! So that stunk, but being the good sports fans that we are, we found a piece of paper and wrote "I need tickets" and held it up to passing footy fans hoping for a scalper. It was so funny! People reacted like we were nuts and they had never seen anything like it before! It was really hilarious to see their reaction to this little sign, they would walk by and look curiously, then start laughing when they read it and look at us like we were crazy! But the sign worked,
the two Utah guys we were with, Josh and Stephen, each found themselves a ticket, so Jamie and I were left to carry on the sign. We were then nicely warned by a worker that we couldn't have our sign b/c scalping is not legal, and kindly nudged to just past the entrance where he couldn't' get in trouble if he saw us! So that was really nice of him, and actually, it was good b/c right when we got there this guy and his little daughter saw our sign and were able to get us in the game for free! It was awesome! These fans were crazy and the game was really cool - the atmosphere reminded me of a good ole LSU game, so that was fun. After the game we were pooped so we went home and ate dinner and that was about it.

The next day we had our Philip Island Penguin tour. This was the first day we got to sleep late since the tour wasn't til 1:30pm so that was nice. On the way to Philip Island, we stopped at this wildlife reserve where we saw a bunch of koalas. It was really cool b/c you could get pretty close but they weren't captive or anything. Unfortunately, this is where the first bad thing happened on our trip. We wanted to take one last picture of this koala that was super close, of course, but if we hadn't have taken that one last picture, I would still have a camera today. You know when you're handing something to someone and either you let go to early or they don't grab it quick enough, well whichever one, that's what happened. I was handing the camera to Jamie and we dropped it! It wasn't that bad of a drop so you'd think it would be ok but it's not. We think the lens is broken so it wont take anymore pictures, sorry Greg =( I had to call my friend Greg whom I borrowed it from and tell him the bad news. Luckily he's a sweetheart and instead of being all mad, he actually tried to make me feel better! because I was so upset. (Thanks Greg, I'll make it up to you, I promise) Well, hopefully we can fix it under the warranty but if not, I guess I'm buying a camera! oh well, what can you do, I'm trying not to think about it much, hehe. Anyway, we did get some good koala pictures before heading to Seal Rock where we were supposed to see some seals but didn't. After that it was on to Philip Island for the penguin parade! Jamie and I had been looking forward to this for a while, so we tried to ignore the camera incident so that we could still enjoy it, which we did. It was a pretty cool sight to see, all these tiny little penguins (about a foot tall) would come waddling out of the ocean and head up the shore to their burrows. They apparently do this every night as part of their daily living, so it was pretty neat to sit there and watch them! They usually would come up in small groups of maybe 10 or 15 and make their way to the bushes on the shore. Anyway, that was pretty neat to see but we can't show you any pictures because we weren't allowed to take any unfortunately.

For our last day in Melbourne, we took our time wandering around the city, heading towards the Queen Victoria Market, which is this big outdoor market similar to the French Market in New Orleans. That was pretty fun, and we found some souvenirs so that was good. After that, it was a quick dinner then on to the train station for our overnight train to Sydney.

Well, I guess y'all are caught up now! We're gonna play around Sydney today and probably see some of the main sights tomorrow. We don't really have a set plan but we're thinking of staying here for a few days then going to the Blue Mountains and maybe some nearby towns for gold panning and wine tasting, so we're looking forward to that! Plus Sydney in itself will be pretty awesome! Well, I know this was long, we'll try to update more regularly so we don't have to cram it all in one big long entry. Well that's it for now! We'll talk to y'all soon =)
