Greek Easter in Samos

Text written in: English

We were lucky enough to spend greek easter on the island of samos. there ended up beign a group of about 8 of us that got stuck on the island because all of the ferry's stopped running for 2 days.

Lucky for everyone that we were all stuck together, 7 aussies and 1 canadian. We sat around for 2 days, hired cars, ate and drank. I also found one of the best ice creams on the world in samos. it is called a 4 x 4 Grand and is about twice as big as a cornetto. it takes a good 20 mintues to eat and so far I have spent about 2.5 hours eating them in the greek isles. I don't think a day has gone past without one.

the best part of Samos was the explosions. Apparently the greeks like making "fire works" for greek easter. They also like burying them to make them sound louder, and unfortunately for some of them they also like making them out of disgarded greek military war heads.

True story, about 2 years ago the greek air force was using one of the mountains of samos as a target ground. But greek missles being made by greeks, some didn't explode on impact. And some of the locals knew about these bombs and went into the mountains to find the war heads. When one young 24 year old guy did, he tried to take out the war head with deadly results......
