Day 3 along the trail

Text written in: English

The clouds that rolled in last night, have come to stay. At least they have kept the temperature up a little, but have reduced visibility at times to less that 50m. Straight off the bat we are faced with the second pass, 500 metres up from the camp. The climb is broken by a ruin called Runku Racay, and Wonders broken explination. As we reach the top the clouds set in thicker, shame because i can sense a fantastic view beyond the white. Another Inca post called Sayacmarca, once used as a stop off point for Inca travellers between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Lunch is taken at the third pass, on top of a pitiful attempt of a mountain compared with the last few. My Norwegian viking tent mate, Sondras, decide to wait out the clouds after lunch, giving the rest of the group a 2 hour start to camp 3. The wait pays off as the sun begins to burn the cloud away, leaving us with a postcard view of the Urubamba valley and the terraces of Pata Marca and Wiñay Wayna. The climb down is the most dramatic of the trip, very steep, very old steps, very dense forrest, loved it. At the camp site again we find tea waiting, our tents up, and a little bar ding a thriving trade in cold beer. Dinner was a massive buffet, the porters were tipped, and the alarm set for a 4am wake up.
