This is Greenpeace.....save the whales

Text written in: English

Begrudgingly we rose at 6.30am and stumbled downstairs for breakfast before our 7.30 bus to Halong Bay.  The bus arrived on time, much to my surprise and took us to the booking office where we were shepherded onto another bus (why cant they do things simply out here?).  The bus ride was pretty cramped, bumpy and generally uncomfortable, so we were happy to stop half way for half an hour and we took the opportunity to play a bit of football in the car park.  We lasted about five minutes before being told we couldnt play football there anymore, so instead I went and paid for a rediculously overpriced book as I didnt have any reading material on me at the time.

After another two hours on bumpy roads (much to Al and Acks annoyance as they were trying to sleep) we finally arrived at Halong City at 11.30am, where we were put on a big boat by our extremely annoying guide, and got speaking to an Aussie girl called Abbie and an English girl called Brooke, who was built like a house end!!

Halong Bay is a Unesco World Heritage site and is basically the same as Yangshuo in China but underwater with its limestone 'karst' cliff faces.

For lunch we got a great feast of fish, octopus, egg, rice and a whole host of other dishes and the boat started sailing out towards our first stop to see some caves and a lagoon.  On the way, while on the top deck, myself and Alex spoted not one, but two jellyfish floating about, and they werent tiddlers either (probably about a foot and a half wide).  As a result we pledged to not swim in this water at all costs.

We stopped at the lagoon at about 3pm and it was quite nice for a short while.  I wanted to get a better view for some pictures and got told off as I managed to climb past the biggest STOP! sign in the world without noticing!  The cave was tiny and boring as well, but it did provide some giggles, watcing Brooke try to squeeze through some tight spots with her huge ass!!!

Shortly before it t dark we stopped at a second cave, which was this time much bigger, but still not all that impressive apart from one water pool that looked quite cool.  Ackroyd loved it for some reason.  We got the usual splurge from the tour guide about how this rock looks like a lion, this rock looks like a elephant, this rock looks like a cock (seriously) and this rock looks like a man and woman getting it on!  I got seriously bored with this after about five minutes and decided to not walk with the group anymore.  Even when the guide said something interesting, I couldnt understand him anyway!!

As it started to get dark by the time we got back to the boat, we moored for the night along with the other two million tourist boats in the area and despite saying we werent going in the water, the chance of taking running jumps off the top deck of the boat was too good to refuse for me and Al, so in we went, three times.  On my third time, I nearly landed on top of a Spanish bloke which probably would have killed him, but I didnt, so never mind eh.  Ack is a winp and scared of the sea so he didnt go in the water, no matter how much me and Al goaded him, instead he just videod us jumping off the roof on my phone.

For dinner it was more seafood washed down with five bottles of Vietnamese wine for the five of us, plus a good deal of beer to follow and before we knew it the girls wanted to go pissed swimming in the dark!  Not surprisingly, the guide didnt let us get in the water, not that I actually wanted to, and one of the German guys was hanging out of an upper deck window shouting, "this is greenpeace, save the whales", obviously taking the piss out of Brooke, but she was to ostupid to realise this.  It did however have me and the lads curled up in stitches for the best part of ten minutes.

After a whole host more beers, and Alex stealing cigarettes off the sleeping staff we ended up chatting shite on the top deck of the boat.  I could tell I had a lot to drink cs I didnt resist the fact Abbie was coming on to me and ended up getting to grips with her up there after the guys had left!  Oh dearry dearry me....
