I finally clambered out of bed at 10.30am and took a much needed hot bath as I stank from the days travelling before. I opted to not be a lazy bugger and went downstairs for breakfast unlike Alex who gets it sent up to the room every morning/afternoon.
Around midday, me and Ack decided to do a tour of the city as he had been here for about 6 days and seen nothing but nightlife.....leaving Alex in bed in the process. As it was monday, all of the museums and some of the main tourist attractions were closed so we had a walk around the Old Quarter, nearly getting run over a million times in the process and headed towards the Temple of Literature. The temple itself isn't all that impressive, but it is set in a nice little park and is relaxing to walk around for an hour at most, so we got the obligatory pictures and moved on.
From there we walked through a rather posh district of Hanoi containing nearly all of the embassies on the way to the cities centrepiece, Hoan Kiem lake, and the small temple Den Ngoc Son which you reach by crossing a bridge half way over the lake. This too wasnt all that impressive after some of the temples in China and Mongolia, so we didnt waste much time here and went to get some Vietnamese food called Nem. Basically it is just a Vietnamese version of spring rolls filled with pork ad seafood I think.
We headed back to the hotel to find Alex still lying in bed like the slob that he is watching the Disney channel. A few hours later we went to get a sandwich for dinner and then got an early nights kip as we were heading off to Halong Bay at 7.30am the next day.
