We arrived in Kunming at 6am with a 6 hour wait ahead of us for our next train ride to Guangzhou. To pass the time, we spent a few hours in a horrid fast food restaurant called Dicos with a Canadian family we got talking to outside. They had 5 kids called Frazer, Cameron, Daniel, Sarah and Hannah (ages 4 to 12) and were very friendly, so we decided to teach the kids how to play 'shit head', calling it shed though to guard their young ears. The highlight of this stop off was Ackroyd bringing over a tray of drinks to our table and actually throwing them accross the table, and in the process, me as well!! Alex also managed to cover himself in food as well which was quite funny.
As it came time to board the train, we realised the Canadians were on the same carriage as us, so we basically babysitted their kids for them for the full 25 hours. The littlest one (Sarah) took a liking to me, so i spent ages playing with her before getting irritated and heading off to my top bunk to read for the next 4 hours out of her reach!!! Something tells me i am definately not ready for kids.
Some of the scenery was amazing out of the train window, with sheer cliff drops, hundreds of rice paddies and violent looking rivers weaving their way through massive gorges.
As i was getting ready for bed, it was my turn to fuck up....I managed to drop my maglite from the top (3rd) bunk onto the woman on the bottom bunks glass, which obviously shatterred into about a million pieces....and whats worse, most of it went on hers and Ackroyds beds!!! Oops
After this train journey, i dont think i ever want to play cards again after hearing the three boys asy "can we play cards?" about 30 times a minute and we usually gave in!
