Mrs Xi and the Island of man-eating spiders!

Text written in: English

We woke bright and early with the novelty of having a clear head and prepared for our trip around Er Hai lake with Mrs Xi.  We were meeting here at the Caffeine Club, and on the way, i was horrified to see the biggest spider of the trip so far hanging above our heads as we walked along, and worst of all, it was yellow!  I got shit scared and ran away as the lads stopped and used up most of their memory cards getting close ups of the hideous creature.  This wouldnt be my last encounter with these beasts today...

Mrs Xi picked us up in a small van and drove us north of Dali to Xizhou town, where we went to a traditional Bai show complete with fit chinese dancing girls.  This would have been so boring if the girls werent half as hot as they were.  We then had a walk through the town, picked up some meat and bread and then pottered around the market for about half an hour.  It was pretty disgusting and smelly, but at the same time interesting to see what the daily lives of these people is like.  I took a pretty cool picture of a realy old chinese woman crouching next to a cage full of chickens....actually, probably not the best idea to be spending time in the poultry section of a chinese market with all this talk of bird flu!!

Our second stop off was at a place where they made tie-die clothes and things like that...i ended up buying a pretty cool wall hanging and alex bought a bandana with flowers on it....need i say more?

We drove further around the lake and saw hundreds of people working their arses off in the rice paddies which was interesting too see.  We also drove through a couple of small towns/villages which were more rural than anything we have seen in China so far.  Our next stop was at a tiny island with a temple which we named 'Spider Island'.  We paid a bloke a quid to row us over to the island and we had a good look around the tiny temple and its buddha statue before walking around the back of it to see the hugest spiders in their webs weaving inbetween huge cactus plants.  I turned on a six pence and darted, sweating, feeling sick and with every hair on my body standing on end as Al and Ack got up close and got some more spider pictures.  After this, i couldnt get off the island quick enough.

We then had a walk around another small village as our guide Mrs Xi ate her lunch.  We all pretended we werent hungry as the food looked about as appetising as a fourty stone female German shot-putter lying on a bed naked.  They were eating whole fish, eyes included ampngst a host of other things i couldnt recognise (apart from the rice).  Shortly after this, it started bucketing it down, so we decided to cut our losses and head back to Dali and relax for the evening.  We politely turned down Mrs Xi's invite to dinner as she bought all the ingredients from the grubbiest market in the world and i had stomach aches again.  Luckily, this time they didnt turn into leaky ass again!
