We arrived in Xi'an at the rediculous hour of 6.30am and found the minibus to our hostel no problem. Xi'an is still a pretty big city, but nowhere near the scale of Beijing. Our hostel is pretty nice (it has table tennis and a bar underneath our room, how convenient) and we have got our own room with air conditioning, which is a pretty good job as Al has just started complaining of having a stomach ache and he was to go for at least 15 'Ertha Kitt's' today!!!
Ack and me wasted a bit of time playing table tennis in the basement until when at three games down i pancaked the ball by stepping on it on the verge on my first win.....we tried to carry on with a flat ball but it wasnt working no matter how hard we tried!
One man down, Ackroyd and myself trudged wearily around the centre of Xi'an to see a few sights. We visited the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower, the city walls and a mosque, which were quite interesting, but not quite as impressive as what we saw in Beijing. Our main aim for the day was to book ourselves on a tour to the Terracotta army the next day and also to decide and book our transport for the next leg of our journey.
Luckily, we managed to book a trip to the Terracotta army the next day, but the booking of transport however, wasnt as easy as last time. We had to go to the train station and wait in two different queues before we could book ourselves on a train to Yichang in two days time. The only snag being that they didnt have any sleepers left for sale for about 5 days, so we have had to go with hard seats for an overnight 16 hour train ride!!!! Just hoping alex has a lot of Immodium on him. From Yichang, we have planned to spend three days on a boat down the Yangtze river to Chongqing, where we will catch an onward train to somewhere else undecided as yet.
Later that evening, Alex felt rough again after eating a horrid looking hot-dog, so me and Ack went few a few sly shandies in the downstairs bar, only to be dissapointed as it was empty, the bar staff were hogging the pool table, hte darts wouldnt stay in the board and there was a really annoying bloke in the corner playing the drums badly!! We decided to not stay for too long and got another early nights sleep in preparation for our trip tomorrow.
