Dafties in the Hermitage

Text written in: English

We woke up late on the Friday, after staying in a really nice hostel (200 metres from the Hermitage) and bumped into a group of English speaking people at breakfast, which was very welcome, as we had hardly heard anyone speaking English in Russia yet.  The whole group of us decided to go to the hermitage museum as the weather was pretty crappy.  The group consisted of Tom (polish/american) and his girlfreind Ariana (Argentinian/hot), Jenny and Brian (both from Wisconsin i think) and a crazy Australian photographer called Martin.

Went to the Hermitage and saw some Da Vinci's, Picasso's, Matisse, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Rodin, Monet, Renoir, Titus Flavius (no shit), Raffaello, Michaelangelo and Rembrandt.  All very impressive i hear you say!  well, im not a big art fan (or shorts fan - private joke) so you could say that the 5 hours we spent in the museum was a bit excessive.  Personally i would have left after about 2 hours tops if all the other guys hadnt been there - and it turned out to be quite a funny day just being extremely immature as per usual!!!

Unfortunately we didnt have enough time to go and see the St Peter and Pauls Fortress, maybe next time eh?

When we all got back to the hostel, we chilled out for a little while, then decided to go foro some food and then on to a bar for some goodbye drinks...you know it makes sense before trying to find a Russian train station when they use a completely different alphabet to us!  Its started pissing it down really heavily as soon as we started looking for somewhere to eat, so we just decided to go to a pizza/meatballs n stuff place. It turned out to be quite good, although the meatballs were a bit suspect!  Then we went off to a bar for a few shandies and it wastime for us to leave for the train to Moscow.....

Oh, i nearly forgot...St.Petersburg was build on swamp land, meaning they have quite a lot of mosquitos there.  I managed to get away without a bite somehow (knew that stinking of chilli and garlic would come in handy one day!), whereas, Anna, she got a bite on her forehead, one on her eyelid (very funny, looks like Bruno after the Tyson fight) and another on her forearm that has swolen to the size of my head -well not quite, but it is big.

All in all, I really liked St. Petersburg, i just wished we had another day or two here, so we could see more of the sights, but its off to Moscow tonight on an overnight train where we have beds and everything...yahoooo
