ok peeps, the photos i am putting up are a mix of all the things i have been up to - parties, dinners and some sight-seeing. there's a bit of a jumble with regards to chronological order, but hey  the important thing is what it all looks and feels like and so far it's all fab!

it's been  an interesting three months out here in padova. although it's a small city there's always something new to see... and  eat! i know i have probably been going on about the food out here a great deal but that should just signify how delicious it is! it's so good that i have acutally taken photos of my lunches and dinners and desserts - as you will see!

as for italian men - as you girls [and some boys]  will be interested to hear - the stereotype is pretty accurate! the north disaproves of the south - padovians and sicilians etc- the sicilians eat more than any other region...though naples is a close second. and im learning about the southern habits from one of my sicilian students - godfather fans take note! here's a bit of italian jargon for you:
non me ne fregga - i don't care [with the swift hand movement from neck to chin and out!]
che vuoi? - an informal way of saying 'what do you want?
perche siamo qui? -  why are we here [believe me, at 5am, a bit tipsy from the local aperitives and in cold weather, this phrase gets voiced A LOT]
vede? -you see?
come hai detto? - what did you say?
non vengo -i'm not going
non preoccupati - don't worry
and of course -buona giorno, buona notte, buona sera,  bello/a bambino/a, carino/a [endearment for dearest]
that's all for now
enjoy the pics

this is a pic of the christmas market in Bassano - about one hour's bus ride from Padova- it was beautifully festive these are some more of the things on sale at that market in Bassano. there's a german influence in the products and this is common in the north of italy. interestingly enough, when you looked under some of the candles and things you can see 'made in china' and stuff on them!! we went for dinner about two sunday's ago to this place called 'marechiaro' [clear ocean]and this is a specialty - sausage, polenta and parmesan -mmmm, simple but satisfying more christmas products - you really wanted to buy the toys for yourself as opposed to buying them for the children in your family...is that a bad sign? st mark's basilica - simply breath-taking! enough said really!! these are some of the designs for masks and tid bits around the touristy area of venice, not too close to the station. i went with my mum in the first week of my arriving in padova o fair verona...i studied english lit and i still doubt my memory for that quote!!haha, this is pa picture of the bridge further south of verona, about fifteen minutes walk from the centre -ie, the arena, and it was just ... beautiful! la casa di julieta - juliet's house, apparently. we went inside and it was all very rustic and scenic- very much as it was in one of the original romeo and juliet films [not the leonardo di caprio and claire daines remake!!]
