Varna was the first of our Splendid hotels. The Splendid in Varna was very new and flash. The resturant we picked was authentic Bulgarian with waitresses in traditional costume. It also had a "no Guns" sign at the door which I can only assume was a genuine request and sincerly hoped that it was complied with. It did leave me with the concern of what was happening on the streets though. We travelled to Varna from Bougas in a bus, our first longer trip. It was fine but our request to the driver to be dropped off in the center of town was ignored despite all the locals getting off there. The walk was good anyway.
