Up early again this morn after toast n Milo at the guesthouse. We were
going to follow Route 9A today, taking us through the jungle to reach
the Boh Tea Plantation. Set off down through the town past some very
garish apartment blocks in pink and yellow - they don't blend in at
all!! Walked up a road and was directed back down it again towards a
sign - now we were on the right track literally!! Walked down past the
Robinson Falls - more spectacular than Parit. This was real jungle here
as we walked/slid/climbed along we listened and breathed the jungle all
around us. At one point a mini leech was found on my hand (ewww) and we
had to climb over a fallen tree. The saying "If a tree falls in a
forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" came to
mind! All this fresh air is making us very odd! Carried on with our
walk/trek along route 9A until we reached the vegetable garden on the
main road to Boh. Saw signs that said it was 12km back to Tanah Rata so
had walked quite far this morning. Also saw signs for the Boh
plantation where we wanted to go. Malaysia road signs are not to be
believed you we have found - it said it was 2km to Boh, but it was
actually 2 1/2km to the plantation gate and another 2 to get to the
teahouse at the top!! We were desperate for tea and cake when got to
the teahouse!! The scenery was beautiful as we walked up the estate
road. Tea terraces everywhere, amazing views. I recalled Mr Palin in
his visit to the Java plantation and the fun with the shears so had to
have a go when saw some! Saw lots of workers and tractors abandoned. We
felt like hotwiring one for the walk up (and down later). Had sarnies,
fruit teas and cake for lunch then had tour of the tea factory. They
produce lots of different types and it's the tea you get when you order
tea in Malaysia. Boh means black and the tea is quite strong. After the
tour we set off back down the road. We had hoped for a bus or lift but
no chance maties! Plates of (dead) meat it had to be. More amazing
views on the way back down, clouds coming off the mountains and hills
and flowers everywhere. Like a nice summer day in England. Long walk
back down to the road junction - 6km. Will have the "shin splints"
tomorrow as was tarmac road. Waited for bus here back to Tanah Rata,
along with some other people. A nice local man in a 4 x 4 Landrover
stopped and gave us all a lift back up the hill to Tanah Rata, a snip
at 1 ringitt each. No hot water tonight but at least have water!! We
ate at the T cafe tonight, claypot rice for me and split tea on
trousers from Ian - has been hanging around me for too long!!
