What a great Easter weekend! Alexis and Lisa, who are both much more butch than Daniel and me, tempted us out to their lovely apartment at Barbès-Rochechouart (Paris XVIII - trying saying that with your mouth full!) and gave us a great lunch. They have fantastic views and heaps of space! Unfortunately, we were too timid to pull the camera out in the street to snap some great photos of the neighbourhood, or to stay past night-fall to get evening shots, but you get the idea.
We also went to the park at Bercy (Paris XII), formerly the docklands area of Paris but now a gentrified middle-class neighbourhood with cook-cutter formula boutique shops housed in the former warehouses. We can forgive the faux-hemianism, as the adjacent park is just divine and absolutely 100% tourist free (they're all at the Tuileries and Luxembourg, take my word for it, I know). Yes, it's now that time of year when I no longer stop for people to take photos.
Yesterday we took a stroll through the Bois de Boulogne (Paris XVI), which was nice, but I prefer the Bois de Vincennes. Too many cars driving through which ruined the effect, and it's also a lot less natural (more paved footpaths, a lot more people, more planted gardens as opposed to just wild growth). Still, it was a nice way to spend a Monday! (as Daniel will attest, the gleaming towers of La Defense peaking through the foiliage from time to time!).
Tonight, if all goes to plan, Alexis and Lisa are taking us to Boobsbourg, our favourite lesbian bar on Rue de Montmorency (Paris III, at Beaubourg, hence the name). There's a really great atmosphere, really relaxed and welcoming. Those qualities can be quite hard to venue catering to gay guys! I'll upload pictures if all goes to plan.
And the best thing is, the next entry should be from San Francisco!!!
