Well, two days a year here you can go and visit all the public and private buildings of historical or cultural note. So Daniel and I took advantage of this to have a nosey around all the Town Halls to see what their "Salle des Mariages" were like.
You see, in France, people traditionally have two weddings - a religious wedding at the church, and then the real wedding at the town hall. But it's not like getting married at a registry office. Oh no. They have a beautiful room devoted to this, and you get to go up and down the 'escalier d'honneur' "the staircase of honour" as if you were a princess (which some of us are, naturlich). So we visited the salle des mariages in the town halls of Paris 1, 2, 3 and 4 (Paris is divided into 20 districts each with their own town hall, if you didn't know, in addition to the City Hall which over looks the whole thing). We live in Paris 4 and the other 3 are the closest to our house. Fortunately, we loved the Paris 4 room the most. Now, I was going to put photos online, but I think I'm going to keep it a surprise! And afterwards I'll put photos online for those of you who couldn't come. I have however but photos of the rooms in Paris 1 -3 online. It will only be in a tragical turn of events that we don't get married at Paris 4.
