Back to Yacht club, darling......

Text written in: English

We got to Duala and camped again at the yacht club.

As pre-arranged Eric picked us all up in his ute and took us for dinner to his favourite restaurant. Although quite simple, it was expensive for Cameroon standards. But the food was excellent. I had prawn kebabs and they were real sized prawns!! A lot of the boys had Bongo antelope which created lots of moaning.

I was lucky enough to sit next to Eric so I got to hear most of his stories about growing up and living in Cameroon. It also became apparent very quickly just how wealthy his family was (houses in France and Greece). Mmmm, maybe I should have got his phone number (ha! ha!).

The next morning we woke up to a huge thunderstorm, heart breaking as we needed to pack up the tents a final time and they needed to be very dry so they don't rot. In the end the sun came out quickly after. We spent most of the day packing for our flights - trying to get everything in our backpacks and make airline weight limits. The truck was also prepared as it was being shipped back to the UK for next years trans trip.

That afternoon Eric returned to the yacht club and took some of us to his fishing club to see his twin brother's fishing boat return. We watched them unload and then weigh a huge 35kg Sale fish. Although apparently it is not really that big, but it was bigger than any other fish I have seen.

A few families gathered to greet the boat also. It was a very interesting insight into expat lives in Africa. There is a great divide between the wealthy upper classes, who want for nothing, and the much poorer lower classes who exist by any means possible.

That night we farewelled Thiemo at the airport with the possibility of seeing him again in Nairobi.
