Brisbane

Text written in: English

After only a couple of days, I have to say I love Brisbane. I had been putting off the visit for a while with my usual excuses of workaholism, but when I finally jumped on the plane and headed up, I was struck by how easy getting around Australia has become. And let's face it, alcoholism is better than workaholism.

My main reason for visiting was a well-overdue catch-up, with Matt (and his lovely wife-to-be Alison), Cait, Rachael and anyone else who happens to be around within reach of a cafe or a bar. Speaking of which the bars in Brisbane are pretty cool, and the best ones seem to be around Fortitude Valley (aka The Valley). Taxi rides are pretty cheap so it's easy to bar-hop and the whole place just feels friendly. Even after Queensland beat NSW in the Origin, a pretty messy night but one I'm not likely to forget in a hurry :o)

Of course, as soon as I arrived and met up with Matt - at an awesomely decorated bar called The Press Club - I did my usual trick and lost my camera. I guess it's probably just my latent desire to get a newer one showing through. I wasn't too upset, if it weren't for Matt I wouldn't be here today, thanks to his strange sixth sense, saving us from certain death on a burning train in the Austrian alps one weekend. Makes losing a camera, or buying an extra round of beers seem kinda insignificant.

Anyway, it's sunny and I'm having to squint at this laptop, so more as it comes to hand, I think I might get a bit of culture after my weekend of liver punishment and go check out a photographic exhibition or something.
