hot as...well, hot

Whew. Thought i was close to death today on the 5 hr trip (felt like about 500 hour) to Bundi. Felt like burning on the bus. Really, the wind, which is usually as close as I get to AC now felt like it was coming off a fire.

This town is really amazing although I always feel that way when I first arrive. There is a huge palace on the hill, mansions in the town and it's really old and my guest house is right on the kund (a man made lake) although it's more of a puddle now. But lots of avocets and stilts to watch.

Pushkar exceeded my wildest dreams and I was a little sad to go. Partly because I thought I left my entire collection of ginch there (nope, it was in my bag, phew) but mostly because I really loved the family i was staying with. The women were really kind (I'm sportin' some wicked henna) and well the fact that there were women at all was new to me. Hard to meet them when they're at home cookin' and all. Also, the craziest part was that one of the sons is studying for a MSc. in yep, you guessed it ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE! We tossed around a few terms like Leaf Area Index and Environmental Impact Statement and I wanted to smooch him (he's real cute too), but I know better than that. Plus Pushkar is where I met a new friend and decided to get into the jewellery business (mostly so I could blow a bunch of cash on a shopping spree guilt free). Just a bit, but enough to help pay off this loan that is accumulating.

So all is well. Reading a lot of books mostly. And looking at really old things. And talking to lots of strangers (some more interesting than others, like the man who lost his family and legs in the Gujarat earthquake and knew about Niagra Falls and that Canada is one big country).

I'll be home way too soon. Cross your fingers for me though, I have to go to Delhi in a few days and it's going to be not so fun.
